Tommy has been a member of GNAS since 1977 and has been a coach since 1985 and a senior coach since 1990. Professionally he is a software developer but spends his spare time as a trainer for both GNAS and the British Red Cross.

Education

Coach Renewals

All coaches are required to renew their licence every three years.

Applications for renewal should be submitted to the RCE (Education). The renewal is presented to a renewal panel. This panel is chaired by one of the RCO's and consists of the chairman and three county coaches, one from each of the three Scottish areas.

The panel will consider the application on the following factors

  • Continues coaching at an appropriate level.
  • Commitment to professional development
  • Satisfactory Disclosure Scotland return
  • Attendance at a recognised child protection course

The panel may

  • recommend renewal
  • Conditionally recommend renewal coaches who may need assistance.
  • Recommend Re-assessment
  • Refuse to recommend renewal.

The decision of the panel will be notified to to the coach and forwarded to the GNAS National Coaching Organiser.

The coach has the right of appeal.

Child Protection
The Scottish Archery Association Coaching Group can run Child Protection Seminars for those acting in Clubs as Child Protection officers, coaches and other relevant people.  This course focuses on helping clubs put child protection policies into practice in an archery specific context.  Subjects covered include legal duties, roles and responsibilities, practical procedures and how to appropriately manage concerns.
